Dr. Asim Shah, a prominent supporter of Habib University from Houston, visited the campus

In July 2019, Dr. Asim Shah, a well-known advocate of Habib University among the Pakistani community in Houston, Texas, paid a visit to the university campus. He had previously served as Chairman of the Host Committee for the HU Foundation fundraising gala held in Houston in March of the same year. Dr. Asim is an acclaimed psychiatrist and has been recognized with several awards for his clinical care and teaching. He holds the position of Executive Vice Chair and Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and is affiliated with a number of hospitals in the United States.

During his visit, Dr. Asim was warmly welcomed by President Wasif Rizvi and given a tour of the campus, during which he explored various facilities such as classrooms, lecture halls, the HU library, and sports and recreation areas. President Wasif Rizvi provided him with information about the courses offered at Habib University and highlighted the institution's focus on critical thinking as a vital discipline for students to learn.

After being given a guided tour of the campus and visiting its facilities, Dr. Asim expressed his admiration for the campus architecture and student-friendly environment, stating, “I had high expectations before coming here, but the reality is even better. The university is designed in such a friendly and hi-tech way that I would not hesitate to compare it with MIT and Harvard. It is truly on par with those institution.

According to Dr. Asim, in Pakistan, a Liberal Arts education was necessary as it provides a multidisciplinary approach to gaining knowledge, giving individuals a sense of guidance in terms of critical thinking. He praised HU for its cognitive approach to education, enabling students to study their major subjects while also providing opportunities to excel in fields such as music, poetry, and filmmaking.

Asim, an active member of the Pakistani community in Houston, explained why it is important for the diaspora to support Habib University's mission of revolutionizing higher education in Pakistan. He stressed the significance of quality higher education and commended HU for providing a level of education comparable to some institutions in the US. He expressed his desire for people from the US to come and study at HU and emphasized the community's unwavering support for the university.

Additionally, Dr. Asim urged fellow members of the Pakistani community in Houston to visit Habib, expressing his belief that they would become "ambassadors" for the university and its mission as soon as they set foot on campus.
